June 13, 2023: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday made a heartfelt appeal to the people of state to embrace peace and support the efforts of both the state and central governments in restoring normalcy. The Chief Minister holds a press conference at CM Darbar Hall in Imphal.
The Chief Minister emphasized the government's commitment to preserving the territorial integrity of the state and expressed opposition to any form of separate administration.
"The land of Manipur is for us, for the 35 communities, including the Meitei (Meitei). We will not allow any kind of alternative administration... Our clear-cut stand against separate administration was known by the prime minister and Union home minister. And, even the Union home minister repeatedly stressed that no separate administration would be given. So, why ask again and again," stated CM Biren Singh.
Responding to criticism regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the recent violence in Manipur, the Chief Minister defended the PM’s actions by highlighting that he had sent Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the state for three days to monitor the situation. He further noted that the central government had provided over Rs 100 crore as immediate relief funds and criticized those who attempted to politicize the situation.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the government's efforts in evacuating approximately 40,000 displaced individuals from various areas of Manipur, such as Imphal, Churachandpur, and Moreh, under strict security measures.
